A Collection of Contemporary Ekphrastic Writing and Art
AFTER explores the tradition of ekphrastic writing and art in the contemporary moment. Why do we write in dedication to, in response to, or as echo of other works of art? What are the risks of doing so? AFTER seeks to amplify the new wave of ekphrastic writings and art in search of what the tradition might offer to our current artistic concerns and interests as well as highlight the innovative approaches that address the ethical challenges of the tradition. We want writing that reimagines, questions, and dissents from ekphrastic writing and art.
Each work of writing and art within the issue will be accompanied by a reflection on the tradition of ekphrastic writing and its future in art and literature. To submit, please follow the link below to our Submittable.
Submissions are open April 12th - July 12th.
Publication date: May 1st, 2024.
