Sarah Gomez

Ingrained

My name is Sarah Gomez, a student at the University of Texas at Austin receiving my BFA in Studio. I am constructing the misidentification of the mirrored-self due to grief, illness, and trauma. I paint the body slightly strained with the clench of a hand or the stretch of a neck to depict the restrictions and barriers language possesses while one strives for internal understanding. My figures are found interacting with subtly deteriorating domestic objects build of frosted mylar, cold wax, and tape to characterize a disentanglement from the ubiquitous man made system of identity and vocabulary.
